Plant of the Week: Spirea

If you are looking for one of the most flower-full shrubs available, Spirea is a plant for you. The long lasting blooms can be a great focal point for a pollinator garden or as a border for your garden.

This shrub is a quick growing perennial and has many different types. Flowers range from whites to reds to pinks to purples, with foliage from deep green to gold.

How to care for Spirea:

Spirea like well drained soil that is neutral to slightly acidic. They thrive best in full sun but can tolerate partial sun. They do well in both containers and in the ground.

Here are some pruning tips:

The best time to prune Spirea is in the late winter or early spring while the plant is still dormant. However you can prune in the summer to help encourage regrowth.
